Named for Gul Trekal Darhe'el, one of the most decorated heroes of the pacification of Bajor, the Darhe'el-class cruiser was designed with the efficiency of its namesake in mind. Gul Darhe'el was renowned for the effectiveness of his command. Under his leadership, record numbers of Bajoran resistance fighters were hunted down and destroyed, and the province of Gallitep under his command was administrated with order and efficiency. Darhe'el became known throughout the Union as the man winning the war against the guerrillas, and Gallitep itself became a model of Cardassian rule, with the mining facility at its heart routinely exceeding its quotas of ore mined for the benefit of the Cardassian people. Gul Darhe'el himself was on track for a promotion to Legate before his untimely death on Cardassia after a bout of illness. He was buried as a hero beneath one of the largest military monuments on Cardassia Prime. The cruiser bearing his name strives to meet his reputation for efficiency and tactical prowess. Armed with specialised forward phaser banks modified to deliver extreme range, the Darhe'el cruiser is designed to tear apart the fortifications of Cardassia's enemies and leave only smouldering debris remaining. The Darhe'el was instrumental during the Klingon-Cardassian War, helping to liberate annexed Cardassian worlds from their Imperial overseers. More than a few Klingon battle stations lit up the skies of captured Cardassian worlds as they burned before a line of Darhe'els.
